I want to start off by letting all of my North Carolina friends and family know how much we have been praying for you here in Haiti. Ya’ll have weathered hurricane Florence like champions and are living out what Jesus meant when He said, “love your neighbor as yourself.” Turning Flo into an outpouring of love and strength.
While Wilmington was preparing for a storm, God was positioning for revival. The damage was devastating but seeing people come together to rebuild is uplifting and makes this wild, southern heart skip a beat.
Proof we are forces to be reckoned with when we love and serve each other. All the feels down here in Haiti and will continue to pray for the relief efforts. I’m a proud Carolina girl.
It’s not just hurricanes where God stirs up the gifts in us to serve and love others. Serving as the Finance Director here in Haiti is a privilege and, in some ways, takes me back to my days of working in Corporate America. Slightly different though; no one is talking about the coffee flavors in the break room here.
We do have our own kind of fire drills. Either the generator is leaking, the septic tank is broken, or we are out of water – and I am here to pay the bill.
It’s 2019 budget time out here in Creole Country. I’m no stranger to building budgets. This process has helped me appreciate my time in Corporate Finance even more.
All along God was using my experience and developing my gifts to prepare me for what He had next. Nothing is wasted, friends.
My favorite part has been working with the captains of each of our four homes and our site director in creating the budget. Sharing with them the vision they have for our children in caring for their spiritual, physical, educational, emotional, and social needs.
Most days, in this season, ministry for me looks like a smile and a routine “Bonjou!” to the kids on their way to school and then onto the office where, in the world of spreadsheets and numbers, I play my part in taking Kingdom ground.
It may seem unspectacular but there is a cost and time associated with everything in making sure we are being wise stewards of the money with which God entrusts us. Being a part of that is a blessing.
I am learning more and more that the calling God has placed on our lives is not about the outcome; it’s about following Christ and letting Him lead me day by day.
And just because my days at times look unspectacular doesn’t mean that something mind blowing is not around the corner. God is continually after our good and working on our behalf every day.
He also sees the storms coming way before we do – and He sees what is beyond the storm and how great things are going to be.
- The children’s new school year!
- I am traveling to the Dominican Republic next month. Pray that God use this time to show me more about His plans for me there and for traveling mercies
- Before I move to the Dominican Republic I will go to language school, prayers for wisdom, and God’s direction as I choose one
I was never meant to do this alone. I am so thankful for all the prayers and support. Thank you for being a part of this story.
I’m in if you’re in!
